Creating Audio Cross-fades
Video Edit MagicÆs Volume Tracks are a very powerful
yet simple-to-use methodology to create Audio effects. A volume track affects the
volume of its corresponding audio track partially or completely. Using the
volume tracks in Video Edit Magic, you can increase the volume of an audio track
to 400% (200% for Video Edit Magic 2.6 and below) and decrease it to 0% of the
original volume.

Volume Track highlighting Volume Variations |
The screen-shot above illustrates a sample volume
variation in volume track associated with Audio 1. The volume starts with 100%
(original) volume then step-by-step increases to 200%, 300% and 500% and then
drops back to 0% (silence). The screen-shot clearly illustrates the flexibility
offered by volume tracks in manipulating volume. Please refer to Video Edit
MagicÆs Help for more details on volume tracks.
This article will now discuss creating an audio cross-fade effect using the
volume tracks. An audio cross-fade effect gradually fades out sound from one
audio track while gradually fading in sound from the other creating a smooth
audio transition. To create audio cross-fade effect, you must add audio sources
to both Audio 1 and Audio 2.

Timeline with an Audio Cross-fade effect |
The screen-shot above show a sample audio
cross-fade between Audio 1 and Audio 2 for a period of 1 second. The audio in
Audio 1 track will start dropping volume from the 9th second until it reaches
silence (from 100% to 0%). During the same time span (9th to the 10th second),
the audio in Audio 2 track will start increasing volume until it reaches 100%.
The result is an audio cross-fade.
